Researching the War of 1812

The stories and gravestones of many War of 1812 veterans are fading.  Learn how to research whether one of the 280,000 War of 1812 veterans is in your family tree.  Presenter Becky Speaker will also discuss how today's lineage societies still honor these veterans.   Speaker is a member of the Bartholomew County Genealogical Society and has done extensive research into the War of 1812.

Statehood Day

On December 11, 1816, Indiana became the 19th state to join the Union. On December 8, 2017, the Statehouse will host Indiana Statehood Day to celebrate Indiana's 201st birthday. The Birthday Party will include interactive activities throughout the statehouse. There will be presentations by many state agencies and offices targeting 4th graders. You may schedule your group for the simultaneous programs at the Indiana State Museum, Indiana Historical Society or the Indiana State Library. Please call the Capitol Tour Office…

Kaia: Interactive World Music Workshop

Kaia will break down world music into unique rhythms, vowel sounds, meters, harmonies, etc., showing the diversity of music around the world. This fun show is tailored to kids and their families, with a 15-minute "meet the instruments" section where kids can come up and bang on the percussion. Kaia, based in Bloomington, is a vocal and percussion ensemble who perform world music in over 25 languages and a wide variety of vocal styles.
