Thursday, June 4: SoulShine Band opens the season. Featuring members from legendary acts such as The Why Store, Henry Lee Summer, Carl Storie, and the Bob and Tom Band, SoulShine combines original music described as a new millennium version of a funky 70s horn band with covers from such artists as Earth Wind and Fire, Aretha Franklin, Blood Sweat and Tears, and Rare Earth.

Hypertension

Hypertension is a condition in which the arteries have persistently elevated blood pressure and it can lead to damaged organs and several illnesses.  Dr. Nandu Gourineni, an Interventional Cardiologist at Columbus Regional Health, will cover the detection, evaluation and non-pharmacologic intervention for hypertension.

Stephen E. Towne will talk about his book Surveillance and Spies in the Civil War:  Exposing Confederate Conspiracies in America’s Heartland.  During the Civil War, the U.S. Army developed a sweeping espionage network to spy on civilians in the North suspected of disloyalty against President Abraham Lincoln’s government.  Towne is an archivist at IUPUI and author or editor of books and articles on the American Civil War.  Sponsored by the Bartholomew County Library Associates.
