Family School Partners will host Running for the Stars/Girls on the Run on November 16, 2013.    This 5k run/walk is unique in its evening start at 5:30 p.m. from CSA Lincoln Campus, glow-in-the-dark T-shirts and the winding course through the streets of architecturally renowned Columbus. Young ladies participating in GIRLS ON THE RUN will be guest participants in the race.  Both pre- and post-activities are planned for participants and their families.

This event is perfect for the serious runner, recreational walker, or the entire family.  Registrations are currently being taken.  The registration fee is $25.00 for participants 19 and older, which includes the glow-in-the dark event t-shirt.  Ages 12 to 18 may register for $15.00 and receive the glow-in-the-dark t-shirt.  Children 11 and under are free with the option to purchase a shirt.

Registration will continue to be accepted after November 1st, but with no guarantee of a T-shirt in the participant’s choice of size.  Day of the event registrations will be held from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m. at CSA Lincoln Campus.

Before and after the race all participants can enjoy activities.  Special glow-in-the dark items will be available for purchase.  After the race the top 3 males and females in nine age groups, ranging from 11 and under to 60 and above, will be presented with medals.  The top male and female overall winners will also be recognized with plaques and free entry into next year’s race.  Special awards will be presented to runners participating in Girls on the Run during the awards ceremony.

If participants do not receive a medal, they might be the lucky winner of a door prize, which include a Pro sport camera, Foundation For Youth Birthday Party, bicycle, and downtown Columbus package including an overnight stay at Hotel Indigo and gift cards.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Family School Partners, which has been serving families in Bartholomew County for 25 years.  Family School Partners assist parents in their role as their child’s first and most important teacher, prepare the child for life-long learning, and provide a link between home and community.  The nine Family School Partners visit families in their homes showing parents of children ages 0-5 how to provide the activities and support that children need to build a strong foundation in the early years for life-long learning.  Four bilingual partners serve Spanish speaking families in the community.
