Columbus utilities board approves sale of sewer bonds

COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus City Utilities Service Board approved a resolution at its Thursday morning meeting to sell sewer bonds as a means of financing some long-range projects.

The sequence leading to the sale will start with the agency advertising for bids for the projects. Once bids are received, they will be opened and held for 90 days. The work will then be awarded.

At present, the agency only has engineer’s estimates for the cost of work on the projects.

There was some discussion among board members that, given the current environment of prevalent supply-chain issues and rising material costs, many vendors are reluctant to hold prices for more than 15 days. Interim agency director Keith Reeves explained that the bond amounts have high enough caps to account for inflationary possibilities.
