COLUMBUS, Ind. – Staff and students of St. Bartholomew Catholic School are mourning the sudden death of Principal Helen Heckman. Heckman, 57, died last week after suffering a brain hemorrhage. She had been the school’s principal for the last seven years.
Heckman’s obituary says “She was a natural educator – earning the respect of students, fellow teachers, administrators, staff, and parents. Helen had the gift of seeing the potential in all students.”
Visitation is this Wednesday, February 10, from 3 to 8 p.m., at the O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East St., in Southport. Attendees are reminded to wear masks and practice physical distancing. A burial mass is scheduled for 11 a.m., on Thursday, at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, in Greenwood. It will be live-streamed at www.vimeo.com/stbindy.
Her family has created the Helen Heckman Memorial Fund to offer financial aid to students in need. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to St. Bartholomew Catholic School.
