Columbus Animal Care manager reports to board

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Nicohl Goodin, Columbus Animal Care Services Manager, briefed her governing board Monday evening on recent matters.

She informed the board that Columbus City Council passed on second reading, the changes to the municipal code pertaining to animal care. Goodin reported the first reading before the city council of the center’s budget went well.

As far as receiving animals, the center has taken in 30 more cats than it had at this time last year. The dog population at the shelter is basically in line with 2018 numbers.

The animal care center is awaiting evaluation by the Bacon Group, a Florida-based architectural firm specializing in animal shelters, of the existing building as the first step in upgrading it.

Wendy Elwood said the “Catalina Wine Mixer” fundraiser that her family hosted, raised $52,710 for Friends of Columbus Animal Care Services.
