Public gets look at Fair Oaks master plan

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Representatives from MKSK, the design consultant group for the Fair Oaks Mall repurpose project, briefed the public at a Tuesday evening meeting on its formulation of a master plan for the property and surrounding streets and environments.

Prior to the consultants’ remarks, Mark Levett, president of the Fair Oaks Community Development Corporation, told the crowd that it would likely be 2021 before any ground was broken on the transformation of the site. “We have to figure out what to put in here, when, and with a limited budget,” he said.

The MKSK team presented a full-buildout conceptual master plan that would call for replacing the former Goody’s space in the mall with a multipurpose field house, and exploring the use of the Dunham’s Sporting Goods space as recreation or complementary retail space. The core of the building would likely be devoted to community health and wellness.

The proposal envisions four parking pods, with about 1100 parking spaces.
