COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is warning residents to be aware of scammers who are using fraudulent job application listings to obtain an individual’s personal information.

The listings pretend to be a local business or foundation, so potential victims think that it is safe to provide personal information. BCSO says, “do not give personal information to anyone you do not know.”

Citizens should contact the business directly, using the listed phone number of the business, to confirm that there is a job opening before moving forward.

“If you believe that you have been the victim of an internet fraud and identify deception, contact your local law enforcement officials,” said BCSO Chief Deputy Major Chris Lane.
