Bartholomew County Judges release statement on cameras in courtroom

COLUMBUS, Ind. – The three Bartholomew County Judges have issued a statement regarding the recent modification of the Indiana Supreme Court rule that prohibits the broadcasting of court proceedings to allow certain exceptions to the rule.

Judge Kelly Benjamin, Judge James Worton, and Judge Jonathan Rohde released their statement on Monday:

“The Bartholomew County Courts collectively worked with the other courts in their district in order to provide a consistent regional process by which members of the media may be permitted to broadcast or record certain non-confidential hearings. The new process will be incorporated into proposed changes to the Bartholomew County Local Rules, which will soon be open for public comment in order to make sure that community members have an opportunity to share their views on these changes. The Bartholomew County Courts plan to follow the proposed changes until public comments can be considered, and the revised local rules are finalized. The local judges promote transparency in our local judicial system and want everyone to know that despite the Supreme Court rules that prohibit the broadcasting of court proceedings, members of the public are always able to sit in any courtroom to watch proceedings that the law does not designate as confidential.”
