SEYMOUR, Ind. – Friday was an important day in the history of the Seymour Fire Department (SPD) as the appointment of Eric Roll to the new position of Assistant Fire Chief was announced. It is the department’s first assistant chief appointment in several years. He will assume his new duties on July 2.

SFD Fire Chief Brad Lucas said, “The superior caliber of leadership that the department currently has was evidenced in the interview process that took place two weeks ago. It was no easy decision.”

Roll has served SFD for 33 years, having been hired in June 1990. He has held the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, and captain and currently serves as battalion chief. As battalion chief, his duties include overseeing firefighters, training, fire station upkeep, inspections, and fire prevention. He is also the incident commander for emergency responses.

The new assistant chief is married to Paula, and they have three sons and one grandson.
