NORTH VERNON, Ind. — After 10 weeks in Quantico, Chief of Police Keith Messer has returned to the North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) with new experiences, memories, and training tactics under his gun belt.

Messer announced to the North Vernon City Council in late February that he was one of three officers in the State of Indiana to be accepted for the 286th session of the FBI National Academy (FBINA) after having first applied to the academy back in 2018.

His training commenced on April 1 and he returned this past Monday after graduating with 237 other law enforcement officers from around the world on June 8.

Messer said his time at the FBINA “was an exceptional and transformative experience, marked by rigorous academic pursuits and practical training. The personal development journey I embarked upon […] has left an indelible mark on my professional path.”

He added that the program’s comprehensive curriculum encompassed a wide range of subjects, including leadership development, community relations, strategic planning, and national security.

Finally, Messer said he is happy to be back home with his family and visit with friends.
