COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) arrested a local man when he reportedly tried to destroy drugs in his possession after being pulled over on his moped early Tuesday morning.

Law enforcement initiated the traffic stop near McClure Road and Parkway Drive at around 5:30 a.m. Officers noted that the operator, Jacob E. Shutters, 26, of Columbus, repeatedly reached for the side of the moped and allegedly dropped a plastic bag of drugs on the ground during his encounter with police.

CPD says the suspect stepped on the bag of narcotics before officers placed him under arrest moments later. The officers also supposedly recovered a small amount of fentanyl. They determined that the suspect had a felony parole warrant for his arrest.

Shutters was transported to Bartholomew County Jail and remanded on the preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl, and the outstanding warrant.
