COLUMBUS, Ind. – A wanted local man was arrested by SWAT members after a standoff on Saturday.

The Columbus Police Department (CPD) attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Randy H. Wilson, 31, of Columbus, at his home in the 1500 block of Lafayette Avenue, at around 5:30 p.m. He was wanted on an Indiana Parole Warrant for Criminal Confinement, per CPD. Officers approached the residence and allegedly heard a man’s voice and could smell marijuana.

Heather R. Clarkson, 44, opened the door, and law enforcement said the pot smell became stronger, prompting them to apply for a search warrant and activate CPD SWAT, in part due to Wilson’s lengthy criminal history. When asked to do so, the suspect did not immediately come out of the house so the CPD Crisis Negotiation Team responded.

Wilson eventually exited the front door of the home and surrendered to SWAT officers just after 9 p.m. He was taken into custody and transported to Bartholomew County Jail where he was remanded for the warrant. Clarkson was arrested on a preliminary charge of Possession of Marijuana.
