GREENWOOD, Ind. — The Greenwood Fire Department (GFD) has announced that Fire Investigator John “Johnny B” Brinkman of Greenwood died on January 21, due to health complications from a recent stroke.

Brinkman served the citizens of Greenwood for nearly 50 years, starting with GFD as a Fire Explorer/Cadet in 1975. From 1978 to 2021, he worked as an EMT in Greenwood.

In 2017, he was hired part-time at GFD as a Fire Inspector/Investigator. In 2021, Brinkman became a full-time employee in Greenwood’s Community Development Services department as a City Building Inspector while continuing as a part-time Fire Inspector.

“Johnny B” followed in his father George’s footsteps as a Greenwood firefighter. His dad began his firefighting career in 1966.
