NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a personal injury automobile accident in the 7300 block of West County Road 600N on Saturday at around 5:30 p.m.
When deputies arrived, they found two cars involved in a head-on crash at the crest of a hill on County Road 750N.
The driver of one vehicle, Issac Hopkins, 23, of North Vernon, had been ejected from his vehicle. Emergency personnel began providing immediate medical care to the victim, but Hopkins succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The passenger of that vehicle was wearing a seatbelt and was transported to St. Vincent Jennings Emergency room with non-life-threatening injuries.
The second vehicle was occupied by three adults and one small juvenile in a car seat. Family members transported all occupants to St. Vincent Jennings Emergency Room to treat their injuries.
Indiana State Police was contacted to perform a crash reconstruction. Part of C.R. 750N was closed for two hours while the reconstruction was conducted. Speed is believed to be a factor in the cause of the accident. Toxicology results are pending and the investigation is continuing.
