Local law enforcement holds ‘Operation Safe Prom’ in advance of prom

COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, and the Indiana State Police collaborated on another successful Operation Safe Prom demonstration for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC) students at Columbus East High School on Thursday morning.

Because local law enforcement wants students to have a safe prom night, the event simulates the dangers of drunk driving and making bad decisions.

Opening with a proclamation from Columbus Mayor Mary Ferdon, junior and senior students watched a reenactment of a fatal vehicle crash involving an impaired driver. Operation Safe Prom is meant to deter impaired (drunk) and distracted driving (texting).

The 2024 BCSC Prom, “May the 4th Be With You,” is this Saturday evening, May 4, at The Commons.
