SOUTHCENTRAL, Ind. – The Winter Storm Watch was upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning for a large portion of Indiana, including the southcentral Indiana Counties of Bartholomew, Johnson, Jackson, Jennings, Shelby, Brown, Decatur, and Morgan.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis says the Winter Storm Warning is effective from Sunday at 7 a.m. until Monday at 7 p.m.

Heavy mixed precipitation is expected with 5 to 10 inches of snow and sleet, and ice accumulations around one-tenth of an inch. Isolated higher snow and ice accumulations are possible in some areas. NWS says winds will gust as high as 35 mph.

Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Significant ice accumulation on power lines and tree limbs may cause widespread and long-lasting power outages.

Travel could become nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes
