SOUTH-CENTRAL Ind. – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis says the weekend for south-central Indiana (Bartholomew, Johnson, Jackson, Shelby, Jennings, Decatur, and Brown Counties) will begin with precipitation and end with bitterly cold temperatures and wind chills.
Rain will develop Friday night, mix with snow early Saturday morning, and then change to snow by Saturday afternoon. Little accumulation is expected.
Frigid conditions begin Sunday night and continue through Tuesday. NWS predicts single-digit highs on Monday and Tuesday with sub-zero temperatures overnights.
Roadways may freeze and become slick and hazardous.
Recommended precautions include:
- Monitor the weather through local trusted weather stations
- If you must be outdoors, dress in layers and limit time outside
- Slow down, drive carefully, and allow extra time to reach your destination
- Ensure your car is full of gasoline/fuel
- Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle
- Ensure pets have shelter and bedding if they can’t be brought indoors
- Keep generators at least 20 feet from your home
