Unemployment rates for most local counties decrease in December

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) announced this week that the December unemployment rates for Bartholomew, Johnson, and Jackson counties were slightly lower than in November. Jennings County unemployment was higher.

For Bartholomew County, the December rate was 3.5%, down from November’s 3.7%. The county reported 42,816 employed residents out of a 44,386-person labor force.

Johnson County’s December rate was 3.2%, a decrease from 3.5% in November. Employed workers totaled 87,115 from a possible 90,037.

Jackson County recorded a 3.2% December unemployment rate, just below the 3.4% registered last month. The county reported 22,401 employed residents out of a 23,135-person labor force.

The Jennings County rate for December was 4.6%, higher than 4.1% in November. There were 13,420 workers out of a possible 14,069.

Indiana DWD officials announced earlier this week that the overall Hoosier unemployment rate for December was 4.5%, up from 4.4% in November.
