Johnson County communities receive funding for transportation projects

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. -The Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (IMPO) Transportation Policy Committee recently awarded $80.1 million to support 26 projects across Central Indiana.

The projects include roundabouts, a major bridge rehabilitation, road expansions, trail expansions, trail bridges, traffic signal improvements, a school zone flasher project, a regional air quality program, a regional commuter connect program, funding for bus purchases, and a bike share extension project.

The Town of Whiteland, the City of Greenwood, the Town of Bargersville, and Johnson County were all beneficiaries and will receive over $14 million of that funding for various projects.

The aim is to improve regional connectivity, enhance road safety, promote cleaner air, and preserve essential infrastructure addressing the diverse needs of local communities while supporting the region’s rapidly growing population and economy. Learn more at indympo.gov/news.

Here is the list of Johnson County agencies, their projects, and their monetary awards:

  • Bargersville – Installation of State Roads 144 and 135 and Old Plank Road Roundabout – $2,039,280
  • Whiteland – Improvement of Whiteland and Sawmill Roads Roundabout – $1,428,800
  • Johnson County – Install 36 solar-powered School Zone Flashers at 13 school locations – $1,259,280
  • Greenwood – Reconstructing and Widening of Smith Valley Road from Browning Drive to US 31 – $4,012,693
  • Johnson County – Widening of Smith Valley Road from Peterman Road to Restin Road – $5,500,000
