NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office says that its most recent addition to the staff, K-9 Brock, has made his first physical apprehension.

North Vernon Police Department officers and the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office deputies observed a Jeep traveling near 7th and Hoosier Streets in North Vernon on Monday.

As they followed the vehicle, it abruptly slowed down and started to pull off the roadway. It stopped while still partially on the road, blocking traffic. A male subject exited and began to run on foot.

Deputy Michael Watts immediately recognized the suspect as Joshua Lucas, wanted for outstanding warrants.

Watts warned Lucas to stop running but the man ignored commands and continued down an alley. K-9 Brock was deployed and the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody after a brief scuffle.

During the investigation, approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were allegedly located on his person. Lucas was treated for injuries at St. Vincent Jennings Emergency Room and then transported to the Jennings County Jail where he is being held on the following preliminary charges:

  • Warrant – Possession of Meth/Escape
  • Possession of Meth
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Resisting Law Enforcement
