COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC) has announced three renovation and design kickoff events for 2025. All take place next month.
The third of BCSC’s primary education schools to undergo major refurbishing, L. Frances Smith Elementary, begins a two-year project in the summer of 2025. Highlights include transforming the existing courtyard into a welcoming and functional library, updating all classrooms, relocating the main office, creating a STEM lab, and enhancing areas that support students with special needs. A kickoff for Smith Elementary School’s renovation project is scheduled for Monday, May 12, at 3 p.m.
Northside Middle School will start a multi-phase renovation this summer that will touch nearly every space in the building. Northside will see the addition of a large group instruction area, new science labs, dedicated collaboration spaces for students, a reimagined main office and wellness center, enhanced performing arts spaces, and modernized classrooms designed for today’s learners. It will conclude in 2027. The Northside Middle School project kickoff is set for Tuesday, May 13, at 3:30 p.m.
Finally, BCSC announces the construction of a new elementary school on the west side of the district. This project will help balance enrollment across the district while easing capacity pressures at other elementary schools. Eric Höweler and the team from Höweler + Yoon Architecture will present the public reveal of the building design and lead a conversation about the new school on Tuesday, May 20, at 5 p.m., at Westside Community Church, 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd., in Columbus.
BCSC says all three projects will be completed without any increase to the current tax rate.
