COLUMBUS, Ind. – To kick off the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the free Columbus Indiana Philharmonic (CIP) “SALUTE! Concert” will again take place this year at the Columbus Municipal Airport next to the C-119 on Friday, May 23, at 7 p.m.

Before the concert, the Atterbury-Bakalar Museum and the C-119 will be open for tours. Food trucks will be available for food and drink purchases.

The 2025 “SALUTE!” program combines music from many different genres and styles, including patriotic/military selections, Americana, and popular movies. There will be a short classical selection featuring Jasmine Yang, the winner of our annual Brown Competition for high school musicians. And of course, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, reinforced by cannons, will be performed.

The “SALUTE!” concert is free but requires considerable resources to produce. You can help offset the cost by honoring an active member of the armed forces, a friend, or a loved one who has served the country. Contribute by calling 812-376-2638, visiting CIP at 315 Franklin St., or clicking here.

Donate by April 25, and your tribute will be included in the program printed for the concert and in the 2025-2026 program book distributed at each concert next season.

Special guest Mark A. Pillar, Major General USAF (Retired), will again be in attendance this year, and he invites you to join him at the airport to “Salute!” veterans.
