South-Central Indiana unemployment rates dramatically lower in March

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) announced this week that the March unemployment rates for Bartholomew, Johnson, Jennings, and Jackson counties declined significantly compared to the month of February.

For Bartholomew County, the March rate was 3.3%, down from the 4.4% February rate. The county reported 38,606 employed residents out of a 39,931-person labor force.

Johnson County’s March rate was 2.8%, well below the February rate of 3.7%. Employed workers totaled 85,800 from a possible 88,300.

Jackson County recorded a March unemployment rate of 2.9%, lower than the 3.7% registered last month. The county reported 22,750 employed residents out of a 23,436-person labor force.

The Jennings County rate for March was 3.5%, a big decrease from February’s 4.9%. There were 14,558 workers out of a possible 15,089.

Indiana DWD officials also announced that the overall Hoosier unemployment rate for March was 3.4%, markedly lower than 4.5% in February.
