COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) busted a local man for allegedly driving while intoxicated after he nearly hit a CPD car Tuesday night.
A truck crossed over the center line and nearly struck an officer’s patrol vehicle head-on in the 500 block of Jonesville Road at around 11:30 p.m., per CPD’s Lt. Matt Harris. The driver stopped a short time later near County Road 200S. When police spoke with the man, Derik Bryant, 32, of Columbus, they noted his eyes were bloodshot, his movements were lethargic, and he had difficulty following directions, according to law enforcement.
After failing multiple field sobriety tests, the suspect was taken to Columbus Regional Health for a blood draw.
Bryant was then placed under arrest and transported to Bartholomew County Jail where he was remanded on a preliminary charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
