WHITELAND, Ind. — UPDATE: The Johnson County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as Jerry Stogsdill, 64, of Greenwood. The cause of death is pending toxicology, per Johnson County Coroner Mike Pruitt.

ORIGINAL: The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) is investigating a fatal crash that left one person dead on Wednesday afternoon.

At 2:47 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the 4300 block of North Graham Road after the report of a single-vehicle accident where a car smashed into a tree, per Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess. Emergency workers arrived to find one person trapped inside the vehicle. That person was extricated and pronounced dead at the scene, according to law enforcement.

Graham Road between Whiteland Road (County Road 500N) and Paul Hand Road (County Road 400N) was closed to traffic for a period of time.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing and this post will be updated as more information becomes available.
